Anonymize DICOM files before you share them
DICOM files carry the patient's name, ID, birth date and the institution in their headers. Before using images for teaching, a presentation or research, these should be removed.
Steps
- Open the study in PlexusMD Viewer (a disc folder, zip or DICOM files).
- Use the save button at the top of the series list and choose the series to keep.
- Give the copy a new name or case code, and save it as a zip.
Identifying data is removed from the headers; the images, clinical and device details stay so the study remains usable. Everything happens in your browser.
Check before you share
Some images have names burned into the pixels (for example scanned documents or some ultrasound screens). Look through the series before sharing; header anonymisation cannot remove text that is part of the image.
